Robert D. Mitchell was born in Detroit, Michigan, in 1947. He grew up in a family of six children and was the second oldest. His parents instilled in him a strong work ethic and a passion for education. Robert attended the University of Michigan and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology in 1969. He went on to attend the University of Detroit School of Dentistry, where he received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 1973.
After completing his education, Dr. Mitchell moved to Florida, where he began his career as an oral surgeon. He was dedicated to his patients and provided them with the highest quality of care. He was also actively involved in the dental community and served as the President of the Florida Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons from 2003 to 2004.
Dr. Mitchell was a devoted husband and father. He met his wife, Barbara, while they were both attending the University of Michigan. They were married for over 50 years and had four children together. Their son, David Robert Mitchell, followed in his father’s footsteps and pursued a career in the film industry. David is best known for directing the critically acclaimed horror movie “It Follows.”
Dr. Mitchell was also a proud grandfather to six grandchildren. He loved spending time with his family and was always there to support them in any way he could.
