Gregory Peck was born on April 5, 1916, in La Jolla, California. His parents were Gregory Pearl Peck and Bernice Mae Ayres. His father was a pharmacist and his mother was a housewife. Peck attended St. John’s Military Academy and San Diego High School. He then went on to study at the University of California, Berkeley, where he majored in English.

During his college years, Peck developed an interest in acting and joined the university’s drama club. After graduation, he moved to New York City to pursue a career in acting. He enrolled in the Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre and studied under Sanford Meisner.
