Sissy Spacek was born Mary Elizabeth Spacek on December 25, 1949, in Quitman, Texas. She was the third of four children born to Virginia Frances and Edwin Arnold Spacek Sr. Her father was a county agricultural agent, and her mother was a homemaker. Growing up, Spacek was a shy child who loved to sing and play piano. She attended high school in Quitman, where she was a cheerleader and won several beauty contests.
